The Long Way Home
A thoughtful restoration of a 1919 Craftsman, and a return to the place where my story began in Kalamazoo, MI.
My process was to start with my own ideas and have my ChatGPT assistant help from there.
Entry
I wanted the entry to offer a warm welcome while honoring the character of a 1919 Craftsman.

Living Room
I wanted the living room to feel collected rather than decorated. A space that reflects the different things I love most instead of a single design moment.
The Finished Space
Office
I wanted to turn one of the darkest rooms in the house into one of my favorites.

Downstairs Guest Bedroom
I designed this space around the small nook that was perfect for a twin bed. While I didn’t want too much of a beach/lake vibe, I love the retro swimming ladies, so went with it!

Downstairs Guest Bathroom
I wanted this small guest room to feel fresh, welcoming, and full of personality while respecting the character of a 1919 Craftsman.

Kitchen
Where It Started
The kitchen didn’t need to become something different. It simply needed to reflect the way I live, gather and feel at home. It needed to reflect me.

Dining Room
More than any other room, I wanted the dining room to honor the character of this 1919 Craftsman.

Porch
The Porch is one of the reasons I fell in love with this house. It is where the dogs and I can come for quiet, watch the yard and simply enjoy being home.

Sunroom
The Sunroom can also be called the dog room. I wanted to balance a functional room for my dogs, while taking advantage of the bright open room for both me and my dogs. .

Upstairs Hallway
I had wonderful blank canvas with the upstairs hall to create a space that is hopefully as peaceful as the bedrooms themselves.

Master Bedroom
I designed the bedroom to be a peaceful space where I can go to sleep and wake up surrounded by the things I love most. The rest just fell into place.

Master Bathroom
I started the master bathroom fixed on turtle tiles and after unexpected challenges ended up with something even better.

Guest Bedroom
Every house deserves one room that doesn’t take itself too seriously and makes people smile. I think this is mine.
